HMMWV HMIS Upgrade Overview

SmartFlow™ Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS) and DriveCommand™ Drivetrain Control (DTC) Overview

More than a half century ago, Meritor began supplying drivetrain components to military fleets. Today, we are one of the world’s largest independent drivetrain producers for tactical-wheeled vehicles. Meritor provides systems for a complete range of lightweight and heavyweight vehicles, armored personnel and advanced-wheeled combat vehicles for all types of terrains.

The ProTec High Mobility Independent Suspension (HMIS) Series delivers the Iron Triangle: Payload, Performance and Protection – the three absolute must-haves for the military. ProTec is a time-tested suspension designed for tactical-wheeled military vehicles and armored personnel carriers, as well as specialty and off-highway applications. It was launched to meet the demands of the customer for superior force protection, unmatched mobility and unparalleled ride quality.

Meritor Defense’s technologies are specifically engineered for military mission profiles and duty cycles and are proven to perform on all types of terrain. Our enhanced solutions for both the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) and Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) programs feature the ProTec™ Series 30 HMIS.

The ProTec HMIS series is available in three configurations: Series 30 for light duty applications requiring gross axle weight ratings (GAWRs) up to 14,000 pounds; Series 40 for medium and medium-heavy duty applications requiring GAWRs up to 23,000 pounds; and Series 50 for heavy-duty applications requiring GAWRs up to 29,000 pounds.

Building on Meritor’s heritage of advanced engineering, SmartFlow™ Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS) and DriveCommand™ Drivetrain Control (DTC) deliver customized tire pressure and drivetrain management through mud, sand and snow, on highways and cross-country, and in emergency situations. SmartFlow CTIS automatically monitors and adjusts tire inflation as needed with a single pneumatic control unit, whether the vehicle is in motion or stationary. Tire pressure can be altered to tires independently or through all four tires simultaneously. DriveCommand DTC engages automatically when the driver selects a mobility mode on the HMI panel, locking the differentials and transfer case function.

Meritor takes great pride in having the opportunity to deliver advanced technology solutions for military and government applications. We will continue providing the technology and global support needed to meet every challenge.
